Middlesex School Summer Arts (“MSSA”) is a multi-arts day camp located on the beautiful campus of Middlesex School in Concord, MA. In 2020, we will celebrate our 36th summer of nurturing creative campers. MSSA is open to campers entering grades 1 through 11.
Our 2020 season offers two week (June 29 – July 10) and three week (July 13 - August 1) sessions, or combine them for a full five weeks (June 29 – August 1).
We have three programs: Junior Arts, Creative Arts and the Apprentice Program.
Junior Arts is designed for campers entering grades 1 and 2. Junior Artists get a sampling of visual arts, theatre, music, and recreation each morning and then choose their electives in the afternoon. Junior Artists enjoy a mid-morning snack daily.
Creative Arts is for campers entering grades 3-11. Creative Artists choose their own schedule from classes in the visual arts, theatre, music, digital media, technical theatre, dance and recreation as well as full-scale theatrical productions.
The Apprentice program is available only to campers enrolled for both the two and three week sessions and entering 11th grade. Campers who join the Apprentice Program work with a mentor and specialize in their area of interest in the arts. Apprentices also have the opportunity to participate in the full array of classes and in our theatrical productions.
Camp begins at 8:30 AM. Campers attend their first three courses and we all meet for lunch. Lunch is provided and always includes a vegetarian option. MSSA has a nut-free campus. After lunch we gather for the daily noontime show. Family members are encouraged to attend.
After the show, campers attend their chosen workshop. Workshop choices are announced on the Monday of each week and allow campers to try something new each week. After workshops, campers attend their last 2 classes and pickup is at 3:50 PM. In 2020, we will have an extended day option until 5:30 PM.
Swimming lessons are available.
Campers choose their own schedule based upon their particular areas of interest. They develop their skills, in a fun, nurturing environment. Sample class choices include painting, ceramics, mixed media, jazz, acting for the camera, stop motion animation, Broadway dance, set design, guitar, scene study, comedy club, illustration, yearbook, creative writing, stage combat, swim lessons, tap, improv, LEGO maniacs, digital photo, print making, playwriting, musical composition, lighting and sound, costume design, watercolor, silver clay, stage makeup and many, many more!
Our 2020 tuition is as follows: 2 week session: $1550, 3 week session: $2,375. Campers enrolled for both the two and three week sessions receive a $275 discount, which brings tuition to $3600 for 5 weeks. Tuition for the 5 week Apprentice program is $3600. Lunch is included for all campers. Junior Artists also receive a mid-morning snack.
There are multiple transportation options available from Lexington, Harvard, Acton, Weston, Sudbury and Lincoln.
