More often than not, men get lumped into the logic that when it comes to what they want to eat, giant slabs of meat and heavy sides are in demand. For some, that might be true, but you can still enjoy Fatherā€™s Day without it being a cholesterol-fest.Ā

A meaty celebration is fine and still doable, but these tricks will help you lighten things up a bit while still keeping dad and his appetite happy:

Mixed Grill: Donā€™t deny dad his carnivorous cravings if he has one, but make sure thereā€™s a slew of other healthy options as well. Rather than loading up solely on beefy steaks when youā€™re shopping, try this logic: Two parts healthy to one part not. For instance, if youā€™re buying rich red meat, make sure youā€™ve got a lean protein and plenty of vegetables to supplement it.

Meaty, But Not Meat: Similarly, when choosing what veggies to add in to your Fatherā€™s Day menu, think of ā€œmeatyā€ options like Portobello mushrooms, eggplant and cauliflower ā€œsteaksā€ that you make by cutting thick slices horizontally from a head (rather than breaking into florets). Whether grilled, roasted or baked, there will be no concern over feeling hungry, as these veggies pack plenty of density and fiber.

Lighten Up: Potato salad and other common sides associated with grilling and barbeque season are easily lightened up with Hellmannā€™sĀ® Light Mayonnaise, which has less than half the fat of regular Hellmannā€™s and is made from 100% cage-free eggs. For a little mustardy kick and even less fat, split the mayo in a recipe with Hellmannā€™s Dijonnaise ā€“ or use Dijonnaise solely for extra flavor.

Spice Instead of Fat: Let big, bold flavors take the place of unhealthy cuts of meat or burgers. If dad complains that turkey burgers are too plain in place of regular beef burgers, hit them with interesting spices like smoked paprika, cumin or a rub to give it some extra zing.

Bye Bye, Buns: Using lettuce instead of, say, tortillas or buns is a refreshing way to eat meat. By ditching the carbs and empty calories, thereā€™s much less guilt if you stick with a rich cut of steak or pork and make wraps (like these Asian Pork Lettuce Wraps) or mini lettuce burritos with interesting fixins to go along with the meat. For those who want things spicy, these Firecracker Lettuce Wraps bring the heat thanks to KnorrĀ® Menu Flavors Sidesā„¢ - Thai Sweet Chili.
