A New Tradition for New Years!

By Siobhan Brchnl, Publisher Riverdale-Inwood Macaroni Kid December 27, 2014

With the year coming to a close, I've been seeing a lot of "headline wrap-ups" for the past year.  That got me thinking about all of the things that have happened, both socially and personally, within the past year.

Then I got the idea for something fun to do with my family on New Year's Eve.

This year, we are going to create a time capsule!  I'll have each of my children fill out the form below, where they can list their favorite things etc.  I'm planning to have my older ones write a letter to themselves as well.  I would also like for them to include a few goals for the year.  Lastly, we can decide as a family additional photos, objects etc. to include.  For now, I plan to just use a plastic zip-top bag to seal it all up, to be opened next New Year's Eve!

I have no doubt my kids will get such a kick out of reading things about themselves a year from now.  In addition to seeing how they've changed in terms of their "likes", I think it will be fun for them to see how they've grown in terms of their writing and reading skills as well.  It should also prove interesting to see if they have fulfilled any of their goals (and to see how I have done in terms of goals for the year!).

I hope that this will be a fun family activity that we can do not only this year, but every year thereafter, creating a new tradition for the New Year!
