October 8th is National Fluffernutter Day! What is a Fluffernutter? If you're "of a certain age" like me, you have fond memories of these sandwiches. A Fluffernutter is a sandwich with peanut butter and Marshmallow Fluff. Fluff is made by a company here in Massachusetts, so the sandwich is a uniquely New England treat. Somehow, over the years, people now think that Fluff itself is called Fluffernutter, but nope, it's the name of the sandwich.
In honor of National Fluffernutter Day and all the fluffernutters I enjoyed as a kid, here are a selection of awesome Fluffernutter recipes. These (loosely) stick with the idea of the fluffernutter as a sandwich -- no cookies, pies or cakes.
Toasted Bacon Fluffernutters from How Sweet Eats
WOW. This looks amazing. I'm a member of the weird subgroup that enjoys peanut butter on a BLT. Every year, when BLT season rolls around, my husband expresses new bafflement at PB with bacon, but really, you gotta try it! My parents were raised in the South, where PB on BLTs is kind of a thing.

Grilled Banana Fluffernutter Sandwich from NeighborFood
OK, this is not a lunchbox sandwich like a Fluffernutter is. This is warm, messy yumminess. Skip the grilling and slice your bananas thinly, and this could be a new school lunch choice though (provided your school allows peanut butter).

This one follows the general rule that anything with Nutella is better. (Sign me up.)
