Must-Do Local Events for January

Winter getting you down?  Kids bouncing off the walls?  Here are some local fun events -- both indoors and outside -- for January.  Be sure to visit our Event Calendar for other local events every day, including storytimes, skating, crafts, music, LEGOs, tween and teen events, parenting groups and much more!


Friday January 5 4:30 - 8 PM  First Friday Nights Free at the Discovery Museums!

Stop in to the Discovery Museum and play for free the first Friday evening of every month.


Saturday January 6 and Sunday January 7 12-5 PM  Frozen Fruitlands  (also January 13-14, 20-21, 27-28)

Bring sleds, snowshoes and cross-country skis to explore Fruitlands hills and woodland trails. Enjoy a fire and hot chocolate and visit the art galleries to warm up.


Sunday January 7 1-4 PM  Be Our Guest Sundays at the Concord Museum (also January 14, 21, 28)

Visit the Concord Museum for free!


Monday January 8 7:30-9 PM  1st Annual Preschool & Childcare Fair

Learn about local preschool and childcare centers in and around Bedford at the Bedford Family Connection's fair.


Friday - Monday January 12-15  Belmont World Film 15th Annual Family Festival "Where Stories Come Alive!"

Enjoy 30+ animated and live-action children's films (intended for age 3-12) from around the world. Each day revolves around a different theme. The Festival takes place at the Regent Theatre in Arlington, Studio Cinema in Belmont, and the Brattle Theatre in Cambridge.


Monday January 15 10:30 AM  Karen K & The Jitterbugs Concert

Enjoy a fun concert by Karen and her imaginary friends!  


Thursday January 18 5-8 PM  Acton Summer Camp Fair

Stop in to learn about day and overnight camps and specialty summer programs.


Saturday January 20 10:30 AM  Sculpture Park Snowshoe Tour

A trained museum guide and Eastern Mountain Sports instructor will lead families (age 8+) on a 90-minute tour of the sculpture park. These fill up fast; register early!


Saturday January 27 and Sunday January 28  Lincoln Winter Carnival

Information to be posted on our event calendar in mid-January.  Usually includes concerts, bonfire, skating, and kids indoor play event.


Saturday January 27 11:30 AM - 2 PM  Lexington Summer Camp Activities Fair

Stop by to gather information about day and overnight camps and specialty summer programs.


Sunday January 28 1-4 PM  Boxborough WinterFest

Enjoy sledding, music, snacks, kids activities and more!


Sunday January 28 3-5 PM  Big Red Family Ice Skating Party

Enjoy Clifford the Big Red Dog, kids activities, a bake sale and skating fun at the Concord Children's Center annual family ice skating party.
