We want to see all of our students succeed and that’s why we’ve set forth what we know is a successful teaching philosophy here at Fun World Language Academy. In preparing our classes for young students of various backgrounds, we are guided by what we see as a natural approach to learning a foreign language.
Our teachers strive for a maximum level of immersion in the classroom. Along with this use of the new language almost exclusively, our teachers also offer games, crafts, and activities that help the children understand the meaning of the new vocabulary that they’re learning. Our teachers help the children guess the right meaning, rather than translate it directly for them. Studies have shown that this method of vocabulary acquisition is very successful and leads to more lasting outcomes, which is what we’d like to see. We want our students to be enriched, now and in their future, through learning a foreign language.
In order to create immersive learning experiences, our teachers incorporate many of the same engagement strategies that have become popular in public schools, such as TPR (Total Physical Response) and TPRS. TPRS stands for Teaching Proficiency Through Story-telling and is a method of teaching very similar to the way a young baby would learn their first language at home. It is not via the use of dictionaries and conjugating verbs, but rather via involved participation in activities that are naturally interesting for the child. Our teachers are experienced in creating original curriculum appropriate for each age group, level of proficiency, and class schedule, and they do not rely on textbook materials.
Thanks to our happy students, and feedback from proud parents, we know we have a proven program — one that is very appealing to young language learners and keeps them coming back to classes while doing their homework with a smile. As one of our 8 year old students put it, "Wow, it is always so fun in here!"
