Make the Holidays Extra Special with Hood Eggnog and The Nutcracker

It’s all about building wonderful memories!

By Wendy Borges, Assistant Publisher November 13, 2020

When we think of the holidays, so many memories come to my mind: The sound of laughter, the anticipation of giving and receiving gifts, the music, the food (oh the food!), and the traditions.

Make the most of this holiday season and start your traditions early. Be purposeful and create and build memories that will last a lifetime. Nothing says holiday tradition in New England like Hood Eggnog and Boston Ballet’s "The Nutcracker!"

This year on Thanksgiving weekend, for the first time, Boston Ballet is broadcasting their production of "The Nutcracker: At Home for the Holidays" in partnership with NBC/Universal, providing every family in the region free access to the 60 minute “Nutcracker Suite,” making it accessible and inclusive for all.  Join in with so many families at home cozied up on the couch, sipping Hood Eggnog and watching Boston Ballet’s "The Nutcracker."

When and where to watch:

  • Saturday, November 28 at 7 pm the premier on NBC Boston
  • Sunday, November 29 at 7 pm on NECN
  • Saturday, December 5 at 11 am on Telemundo
  • Comcast On-Demand throughout the holiday season.

My family enjoys Hood Eggnog throughout the holiday season. We love how rich, creamy and delicious it is, making it the perfect holiday season treat! Because it is only available for a limited time, I make sure to have some in the fridge from Thanksgiving through Christmas, to enjoy by the glass or in my favorite cookie recipe.

CHOCOLATE-DIPPED EGGNOG MACAROONS

SERVINGS: 28

Ingredients:

1/2 cup Hood Golden Eggnog
3/4 cup sweetened condensed milk
1 tsp. pure vanilla extract
1/4 tsp. ground nutmeg
1/8 tsp. ground cinnamon
14-ounce bag sweetened coconut (about 5 1/3 cups)
2 large egg whites
Pinch salt
10-ounce bag dark chocolate chips (1 2/3 cups)

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350˚F. Line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium mixing bowl, combine the eggnog, condensed milk, vanilla, nutmeg, and cinnamon. Add the coconut and combine until thoroughly mixed.
  3. Add the egg whites and salt to the bowl of a stand mixer. Whip on medium-high speed until very stiff peaks start to form, about 2 to 3 minutes.
  4. Add the eggnog mixture to the egg white mixture and combine until thoroughly mixed.
  5. Drop the batter by tablespoons onto cookie sheets. Press lightly with your fingertips to flatten out the batter slightly.  Bake for about 20 minutes or until golden brown around the edges and just set in the middle.
  6. Remove from the oven and transfer to a wire cooling rack. Cool completely.
  7. Place the chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl. Heat on high for 45 seconds to melt. Stir the chocolate and microwave in 20-second intervals until it’s completely melted.
  8. Dip half of each macaroon into the chocolate, then place on parchment paper to allow the chocolate to set.

The year 2020 has presented many challenges for all of us but it has also been a reminder to get back to the heart of things, to slow down and enjoy spending time together at home, creating “extra special” memories that will last a lifetime. Creating memories is easy when you incorporate tradition like Hood Eggnog and the Boston Ballet.
