Need Help Feeding Your Family? Lasagna Love Will Bring Free Meals

Local volunteers will deliver a home-cooked lasagna to those in need

Started by Somerville resident Rhiannon Menn in Spring 2020, Lasagna Love is a nationwide organization that provides free home-cooked lasagna meals to those in need.  It has grown quickly and now has over 4,000 volunteers in 47 states who prepare lasagnas to help families that are struggling.

From the Lasagna Love website, “What we do is simple: feed families, spread kindness, and strengthen communities. Our mission is not only to help address the incredible rise in food insecurity among families, but also to provide a simple act of love and kindness during a time full of uncertainty and stress.”

A family in need may be food-insecure due to job loss or reduced income, may be dealing with health issues, may be over-worked essential workers, or may need the emotional support that a home-cooked meal provides when caregivers are over-stressed.  Lasagna Love coordinators will match each request with a local volunteer, who will make and deliver a lasagna (all deliveries are contact-free).

Volunteer chefs use the Lasagna Love recipe to prepare nutrient-rich lasagnas, and chefs are encouraged to add grated vegetables into the recipe.  Recipients can request modifications for special dietary needs, such as gluten-free, dairy-free, vegetarian, vegan or allergy-friendly.

Ashley Kolste, the Lasagna Love coordinator for the Lexington area, is seeking families who need a meal delivery.  Families can request a meal (en español) for themselves or can nominate another family in need
