Feed Hungry Minds and Bodies at Communities United's 9th Annual Gala!

Your support and attendance on October 19 will help fund literacy and food security initiatives

September 26, 2024

Communities United, Inc. is excited to host our 9th Annual Gala ~ Pages of Possibility ~ on October 19th. Your presence and support will directly fund initiatives that feed hungry minds and bodies, ensuring our families have access to nutritious food and educational resources.

The last comprehensive study on literacy conducted by CUI revealed that 75% of our families reported having fewer than 10 books in their home. Furthermore, food insecurity is a common challenge for many CUI families; an estimated 21.1% of households in Massachusetts with children are facing food insecurity.

Hunger can negatively impact literacy rates, concentration, memory, and motor skills. Food-insecure children may also have lower math and reading scores, more absences and tardiness, and be less likely to graduate from high school. Children’s food security and literacy are interconnected as adequate nutrition is essential for cognitive development and learning. Addressing both issues is crucial for ensuring that children have the opportunity to reach their full potential.

This year’s Gala will be hosted at the Lexington Depot by Emmy Award-winning executive producer and TV and radio personality Jenny Johnson. Special guest Ed Harding, award-winning local journalist from News Center 5, will also be joining us. Prepare to be inspired by our spotlight authors, enjoy an exquisite culinary experience brought to you by local restaurants, and participate in our live and silent auctions. Your presence and support will directly fund initiatives that feed hungry minds and bodies, ensuring our families have access to nutritious food and educational resources.
