An estimated 21.1% of households in Massachusetts with children are facing food insecurity. Food security is positively correlated with education, and food-insecure children may face challenges in achieving academic success.
Communities United, Inc. is dedicated to providing families with accessible nutrition and healthy foods. Our centers supply families with fresh fruits and vegetables, toiletries, and non-perishable items through our Open Air Markets every month. Children are given the opportunity to “shop” with their families and pick out their favorite foods as well. When available, the Open Air Markets also have books, toys, clothing, and shoes for families.
We rely heavily on community donations to ensure that these markets are fully supplied for our families in need. If you are interested in donating, please contact Lexington Creative Start (781-932-9578 or lisahiggins-smith@communitiesunitedinc.org) for drop off or pickup.
