Camp Hawkeye: A Place Where Kids Truly Belong

A welcoming sleepaway camp where kids discover confidence, kindness, and community.

Camp Hawkeye is a sleepaway camp located in Charlestown, NH on a beautiful 150-acre property. Our campers range from 7-15 years old, and we have an incredible leadership development program for participants who are 16 and 17 years old. Camp Hawkeye is family-owned and operated. Jess and Garrett incorporate the feeling of family, belonging, community and FUN into all aspects of the program.  “When we created Hawkeye 20 years ago we had our own children’s experience in mind.” Jess has told parents when asked about why Hawkeye is different from other camps.

Hawkeye was created to be a place that is incredibly fun, full of laughter, adventure, and where the kind of memories that last a lifetime are made. It’s not a camp solely focused on activities; it’s a community where learning, kindness, friendship building, and personal growth are woven intentionally into what happens each day.

Welcome to Camp Hawkeye, where campers arrive as individuals and leave part of a community that feels like family. The magic of Hawkeye happens in the shared experiences.

It’s cheering for a friend who finally reaches the top of the climbing tower. It’s encouraging each member of your bunk, so you all reach the summit of a mountain together. It’s laughing around a campfire after a long day of adventures. It’s getting into a paint battle and creating your new most cherished t-shirt. It’s running the flag across the line in Capture the Flag for the first time and your village winning.

These moments transform a group of individuals into a community.

At Hawkeye campers are encouraged and supported to step outside their comfort zones. To try something new like the zip line, archery, theater, or learning how to care for the chickens. They will meet cabinmates and staff who come from different places, have different interests and live differently than they do.

At first these experiences can feel unfamiliar.

But because of the shared fun, because of the sense of belonging and the encouragement of their peers, campers quickly discover something powerful: their differences don’t divide them - they unite them - creating a space where everyone belongs and where they can accomplish more together than they ever would be able to do apart.

We believe that when children share cabins, activities, and daily life with people whose lives may look different from their own, they begin to understand the world in a broader way. We intentionally bring a group of campers and staff together who have different perspectives, backgrounds and experiences to foster the MOST amount of fun while also learning to develop empathy, learn how to be a more active listener and to build friendships they wouldn’t in order areas of their lives.

This understanding makes camp stronger, and it allows every child to feel more fully seen, valued and included.  It allows children to stand out as unique while also helping them find their place within a group. They become more independent, but also more connected.

A big part of this experience comes from the counselors who guide campers through their days. Our counselors are energetic role models who know how to make camp joyful and engaging because many of them have matriculated through our program. They want to make sure they give kids the amazing experience they had and even better. The skills learned during their time at camp have accelerated their social and academic growth into college and beyond. Staff foster a culture where fun, kindness, inclusion and joy, encouragement are part of everyday life.

By the end of their session, something remarkable has happened.

The child who arrived at camp as an individual, maybe excited, maybe nervous, maybe unsure, leaves knowing they are part of something meaningful. They leave with friendships that will get them through the school year, memories of shared adventures that sets the bar for future summers, and a deeper belief in themselves.

As parents, we spend so much time preparing our children for the world. Camp gives them something equally important; the opportunity to discover who they are within a community that supports them. This discovery will extend into each area of their life, and they will be happier because of it.

We hope your family will join the Hawkeye Community. Imagine what this experience could mean for your child. Let us support the great work you do already as parents and give them their BEST SUMMER EVER!
