Grotonwood is a welcoming and affirming Christian summer camp and retreat center based in central Massachusetts. Our home is the quaint and peaceful town of Groton, which is only 1 hour from Boston (Route 495: old exit 31) on Route 119. Its unique amenities include a full-size gymnasium that features a climbing wall with plenty of space for basketball, volleyball and other physical activities, a 1.5 mile waterfront on Lost Lake for daily afternoon swim blocks, there is also a lovely chapel that campers visit each day for 'chapel time'
Grotonwood offers miles of wooded trails for hiking and mountain biking, a low and high ropes challenge course, archery range, campfire areas, a sports field equipped with a baseball diamond and soccer goals, a variety of bunking options and a well established Day Camp program for local kids. We have a dining room that serves over 200 campers and staff for breakfast lunch and dinner.
TYPICAL CAMP ACTIVITIES: Typical activities include daily supervised swimming, archery, high and low ropes, Segways, biking, boating and kayaking, tubing, blobbing, sports, talent shows, fishing, relay races, wilderness survival skills building, chapel time, and messy games!
FAITH-BASED ACTIVITIES: We plan our faith-based programming on the assumption that most campers are experiencing a Christian environment for the first time. Practical activities include group prayer, mostly before each meal. During chapel, campers will have the opportunity to learn action songs and learn about a different bible story each day. Chapel is highly engaging and high. Our overnight campers will enjoy evening Vespers, which are short reflective evening services. Participation in faith based activities in voluntary and campers do not have to be affiliated with any religious organization to take part. We simply ask that campers and families respect the Christian values we uphold and conversely we meet each camper wherever they are at in their spiritual walk. We encourages curiosity, tolerance and respect through open discussion using Christianity as the foundation and spring board for understanding.
We offer:
- Overnight camps for kids age 7-16.
- Day camp for kids age 5-12. Hot lunch and snack provided daily!

Facebook Review: Grotonwood is the best camp. I really do enjoy a lot making friends, it is a very great deal to me. I love everybody at camp see you all this summer. - Rex Young
Yelp Review: My three sons have attended as campers or worked here for the past 12 summers, and have also attended retreats and other youth events. It is like a second home for our family. I highly recommend it to anyone who wants a classic camp experience and for the working family who needs childcare/activities for the summer! - Caroline Poser
Facebook Review: I went Grotonwood when I was a child over 30 years ago. My sister & brother did too. It’s a great summer camp! 😊 - Bonnie Bisceglia
Facebook Review: My kids and grand children have been going here for years since early 1980s. They absolutely love it! - Joanne Jerz
Google Review: *****Growing up I did multiple weeks at this incredible campgrounds. Starting at 10 years old up until I was about 16. I did 2 or 3 week long visits and have nothing but the best to say about the staff, the grounds and the experience. I wish I could go back (I’m almost 40 now). If you have children and are a Christian I highly recommend giving Grotonwood a shot. The chapel is beautiful, the ponds is a great way to beat the heat and the foods actually really good. Mix it up with a trip to the water park or an afternoon bike ride. Or get some excitement with a game in the woods. I was terrified the first night, it was my first time away from home with strangers but Mark (the head counselor at the time) helped me to be more comfortable. Every day spent there after the first night was a gift. Am I rambling?… I’m rambling. Take care folks - Max Walton
Indeed Staff Review: ***** Working for Grotonwood was quite possibly the most fulfilling job I've ever had. The community and culture that is fostered there each summer is beyond comparison, and the fact that everyone is there to glorify God makes it all that much better. While the summer positions are not the most well-paid jobs, they more than make up for it in the experience and relationships that you gain throughout the summer. Some of my best memories and friendships have been a result of my time at Grotonwood.
Jobs at the camp vary wildly, from cooking in the kitchen, to running games with the kids in Day Camp, to helping our special-needs adult campers, and everything in between. No matter what your job is, though, you will always come away with a rewarding sense of satisfaction knowing that you were able to pour love into the campers that you interacted with, and gave them a glimpse (sometimes for the first time!) of the love that Jesus Christ has for each of us.
