The Lexington Montessori School was founded in 1963 in Lexington, Massachusetts. Located just off of Route 2, LMS is conveniently located and sits on 23 acres of land, including 19 acres of forest and wetlands.

The LMS community works to create an environment that inspires children to develop inner discipline, self-assurance, and a love of learning. We respect the uniqueness of each student by helping them to develop skills at periods of greatest readiness and sensitivity. Within our authentic Montessori environments, children learn first with their hands, developing a concrete understanding of a wide-range of concepts that become abstract overt time.

At LMS, students learn to view themselves as contributing members of a diverse global community. We respect and value differences, and look with an open mind at all members of the community, seeking to understand and value them for who they are. The staff, the parents and the children at LMS communicate clearly and openly and treat each other with honesty and mutual respect.

At LMS, faculty and staff work every day to educate our 21st century students, guiding them to embrace diversity, and to practice equity and anti-bias. We teach sustainability through outdoor education and farming lessons, while encouraging engagement with the local community and the outside world. Come visit us to learn what it means to “Grow Up LMS”!

Business Review

"I still remember our recurring critical thinking scenarios, which helped me develop thought and exploration that has become invaluable as an adult. I'm a more well-rounded person because, in any situation, whether I agree with someone or not, I'm able to assess their vantage point in all scenarios. This allows me to find middle ground for compromise - in the workplace, personal life and otherwise."

- Janelle Henry, LMS Alum

"Our children have been going to LMS for five years now, and we love this school so much! Not only is it amazing academically, the Montessori method of acknowledging and following the whole child means children are raised with confidence in themselves and their abilities. LMS is particularly committed to diversity, Equity and inclusion, and they truly walk the talk. Children have a strong sense of self and appreciate and celebrate the diversity that exists all around them. Thanks to this, the LMS community attracts diverse families, and children get to have a rich understanding of their world. Class sizes are small and foster individual growth where every child gets what they need. My goal as a parent is to raise a confident, competent, independent adult and I feel LMS is a partner in that goal."

"My three kids have been attending Lexington Montessori School since 2018. Our family loves the school and all three kids are happy there. From the access to nineteen acres of outdoor space to the responsive, organized administration to the wealth of diverse and engaged families, there is a lot I could cover in this review. The most important thing for our family, though, is the careful and individualized attention that the experienced faculty give to each of our children. Our toddler learns Spanish, build with blocks, and sorts colors. Our kindergartener grows radishes, skip counts by nine to the cube of nine, and reads to her teacher. Our second grader comes home everyday excited about new writing lessons, learning Chinese from his friend at lunchtime, and building forts in the woods. Our family couldn`t be happier with the school and we are planning to stay there for as long as we can, which is currently through eighth grade. We can always hope that they build a high school soon!"
