The Dance Inn, started in 1983, serves a diverse population of students. Classes in preschool dance; children's combo classes in tap, jazz, and ballet; boy's only and mixed gender classes in hip hop; teen classes in jazz, tap, contemporary, and hip hop; and adult tap, jazz, hip hop, and Pilates classes are offered from Monday to Saturday during three sessions.

Our fall/winter session is approximately 30 weeks and culminates in an exciting 90-minute recital. Our 7-week spring session runs from late April to June, and our summer session offers short 4-week sessions and week-long half-day programming for preschoolers and children.

Our fall /winter program is offered in our Lexington studio in the Munroe Center for the Arts and in our Arlington studio in the Regent Theatre Underground. Spring and Summer programming is offered only in Lexington.

At The Dance Inn, we believe in fostering a love for dance in a supportive and non-competitive environment. We welcome students who want a more intensive program into either our Youth Intensive Program for grades 4 - 8 or our Legacy Dance Company for grades 8 - 12. Students in these programs study modern and contemporary in addition to tap, jazz, and ballet. These programs involve additional performances in local community events, including a local holiday show at Arlington's Regent Theatre. Many of our adult dancers also like to perform. The tap group is called the About Time Tappers and performs in our holiday show and annual recital, as well as at local community gatherings.

At The Dance Inn, our instructors are not just passionate about dance, they are professionals with dance and/or education degrees. Our Director Thelma Goldberg recently received her PhD in Educational Studies. We share a philosophy that recognizes individual learning styles and the benefits of a holistic approach. Our progressive, rhythm-first curriculum emphasizes goal-oriented learning that engages all modalities. Students are encouraged to sing, clap, and express rhythms in multiple ways. Overall, we believe dance education provides opportunities for dancers to create, collaborate, think critically, communicate with others, and grow as leaders. For our Legacy Dancers, we are proud to host a chapter of the National Honor Society for Dance Arts (NHSDA), a nationally recognized honor society that celebrates participation in the art of dance and offers opportunities for dancers to become leaders in their community. Ultimately, our primary goal is to build a community of individuals dedicated to dancing through life.
